Set within 450 acres of mature parkland, Galgorm Hotel & Spa Resort sought to expand its offering with a new type of long-stay accommodation. Rejen Architects was appointed to develop a viable, high-quality residential model that could enhance guest experience, meet sustainability goals, and respect the natural woodland context.

Rejen have brought real vision, detail, and sensitivity to our work at both Galgorm Resort and Galgorm Castle. Their ability to balance bold ideas with deep respect for historic fabric, and to work collaboratively with planning and heritage authorities, has made them a key partner in delivering our long-term vision.

Our Design

Our design introduced 32 one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments (up from the original 24), each with generous balconies and south-facing views across the River Maine. The buildings are crafted in glulam and cross-laminated timber, reducing embodied carbon while harmonising with the woodland setting — a benchmark in low-carbon residential architecture for resort environments.

Designed to Passivhaus principles, and powered by on-site hydro and solar, the apartments are set to achieve net-zero operational carbon within 10 years. The scheme was developed in accordance with HAPPI principles, creating homes suitable for ageing in place — expanding the resort’s appeal to longer-stay guests and older residents.

Following strong support at public consultation, planning is expected in early 2025.
