The Old Inn Crawfordsburn — a historic coaching inn now part of the Galgorm Collection — has experienced increased visitor demand following recent investments in spa facilities and bedroom upgrades. With only 30 keys on site, the hotel required a creative strategy to expand accommodation while respecting the sensitive historic village setting.

Rejen Architects was appointed to reimagine an underused building facing the main street. Our design proposes its conversion into three 2-bedroom self-contained cottages, with the flexibility to operate as six individual guest keys. This hybrid layout offers operational versatility and a commercially viable approach tailored to the Inn’s growing needs.

To protect the character of the Crawfordsburn streetscape, we retained the traditional vernacular frontage, while introducing a more contemporary rear elevation to express the new additions — a carefully balanced solution rooted in our expertise in adaptive reuse and sensitive hospitality design within conservation areas.

Planning approval was granted in early 2024. The project is expected to commence on site in late 2025, with completion anticipated in 2026.
